The Kishwaukee College Men’s Soccer Team finished the season as champions of the Arrowhead
Athletic Conference.
The Kougars defeated Illinois Valley Community College (10-3-1) 1-0 on Saturday, Oct.
21, at home to earn the conference title. Ayman Farah scored the lone goal, while
goalkeeper Andrew Davison (Kaneland High School) shut out the Eagles.
With victories over IVCC and Black Hawk College and a tie against Carl Sandburg College,
Kish took sole ownership of first place in the conference standings — a first in program
history. Head Coach Colby Newquist said it has been a goal to earn postseason accolades
since taking over the program four seasons ago.
“I am incredibly proud of the guys and this achievement. They are a part of history,”
Newquist said. “This group has had some trying times this season. But when they are
on their game, they are an excellent team capable of beating anyone. Heading into
Saturday, the guys knew they had to win against an IVCC team with an excellent record,
and they rose to the challenge. They deserved that moment, and I am so proud of how
they responded to our challenge to win the conference.”
The Kougars finished the regular season 6-5-2. They head into the National Junior
College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 4 postseason with a first-round rematch
at 12 pm Saturday, Oct. 28, at IVCC.
“We have all the tools to make waves in the postseason tournament. I hope we can go
ahead and win this weekend and keep that momentum going,” Newquist said.
