Veterans Programs

The Financial Aid Office provides assistance and enrollment certification for veterans who wish to use their military and G I Bill® benefits at Kishwaukee College. Vetarns are encouraged to review the Kishwaukee College Student Veteran Handbook.

Enrollment Verification

With Kishwuakee College

Kishwaukee College requires a vetarns to verify their information. Please fill out the Kishwaukee College Veterans Enrollment Certification Request Form and return to the Financial Aid Office. Form is avilable as a fillable form and can be sent electronically. The Online fillable version of this form must be sent via your Kish email, with a Photo ID. With the VA

Access to VA benefits and services depends on your eligibility. Eligibility is determined using different factors depending on the benefit. For complete infomration, read Getting Started with the VA (Education, Employment, Health Care, and other benefits).

Types of Veterans Educational Benefits Getting Started

National Guard and Reserves-

If you have not already done so, you will want to complete the getting started at Kish steps to become a student, choose a program, and register for courses.

Apply-

You will eventually receive copies of your letters of eligibility for one or both the federal and state benefits.  The Financial Aid Office will need a copy of this information for your file, once you have registered.

Military Transcripts- 

You will need to request copies of your military transcripts and DD-214 Member 4 copy (if applicable) to the Student Services office to be evaluated. All transcripts must be provided in order to receive any benefits.

Academic Transcripts- 

You MUST turn in official transcripts from all prior colleges or universities to our Student Services Office for evaluation. No exceptions. All transcripts must be provided in order to receive any benefits.

This form must be filled out and turned in every semester, immediately upon enrolling in classes. Without this form, you cannot be certified for benefits. Failure to turn in this form could result in your classes being dropped for non-payment.

**If you are transferring from another school, you MUST complete a "Change of Place or Program Form".

You must  provide the member 4 copy of your DD-214 to the Student Services Office. This must be provided in order to receive any benefits.

Academic Requirements, Policies, and Procedures

Kishwaukee College VA Academic Requirements-

Students using VA benefits must meet certain academic requirements in order to continue using their benefits each semester. Please review the above link for more information.

VA Withdrawal Policy-

If you do not plan to attend the courses you register for, you must officially withdraw from those courses. To withdraw from your courses, please visit the Student Services Office (C2100) and complete a withdrawal form. Once you have withdrawn, please update your VA Certification Request Form with the Financial Aid Office.

**All withdrawals are reported to the VA for students using Federal VA Benefits.Depending on the timefrme of your withdrawal, you could owe money back to the VA. If you have withdrawn from courses and you feel you have extenuating circumstances, please stop be the Financial Aid Office. The VA will take this into consideration when they adjust your pay and process your withdrawal.This may prevent you from owing an overpayment to the VA for your federal benefits.

Policy for individuals who are called up for Active Duty-

If an individual using VA benefits gets called to active duty they must contact their instructors and the Financial Aid Office, prior to leaving for duty. For more information see the above link to our handbook.

VA Eligible Programs at Kish

VA Eligible Programs-

Each year the state of Illinois approves accredited programs for VA benefits to ensure they are meeting the VA's guidelines for eligible programs. If your program is not listed, please contact the Financial Aid Office at Kish.

*The Illinois Veterans Grant (IVG) is the only veterans program available to students enrolled in the Aviation (AVF) program. This program is NOT eligible for monthly GI Bill® benefits.
