Prepare for the GED® exams and earn the Illinois High School Diploma (IHSD), a state-recognized credential that can open the door to college and career opportunities.
Register for GED Classes
To begin the program, attend a registration session or schedule an appointment with the Adult Education team. Registration includes orientation and a short placement assessment so we can place you in the right classes.
Before you register
- Plan for about 3 hours to complete registration and placement testing
- Bring a valid photo ID
- Bring any previous transcripts if available

GED Program Details and FAQs
To begin the program, attend a registration session or schedule an appointment with the Adult Education team. Registration includes orientation and a short placement assessment so we can place you in the right classes.
Plan for about 3.5 hours to complete registration and testing.

Registration sessions are posted on the Adult Education events calendar. You may also contact Adult Education to schedule an appointment.
Classes are offered in-person and hybrid at Kishwaukee College and community locations in DeKalb, Sycamore, Rochelle and Genoa. Classes are available in the morning, afternoon and evening to fit different schedules.
Classes prepare students for the GED® exams by building skills in:
- Language Arts
- Mathematics
- Science
- Social Studies
Some semesters may also offer Citizenship classes, which provide an overview of the U.S. citizenship test and cover American history, government and English language skills.
Registration takes about 3–3.5 hours and includes completing forms, orientation and placement testing in reading and/or math. These assessments help us determine which classes will best prepare you to pass the high school equivalency exams.
You can start the process early:

Download, complete and print the Registration Form.

Bring the completed form to your registration appointment or email it to adulted@kish.edu.
When you are ready, you can schedule the official GED® exam through GED.com. Exams may be taken at the Regional Office of Education near you.
- Classes are open to adults age 16 and older
- Students 16–17 must provide a high school separation letter
- A photo ID is required for registration
- Technology may be provided for students who qualify
- Kishwaukee College offers accommodations for students with disabilities

Use these free online tools and community resources to study, practice and build the skills needed to prepare for your GED® or high school equivalency exams. These resources allow you to learn at your own pace and find additional support for test preparation, career readiness and basic academic skills.

PrepSTEP offers online skill-building activities and learning centers for Kish students. Log in using your Kish ID email.
Available centers include: Core Math Skills, Core English Skills, College Success
Skills, Career Preparation, Computer Skills Center and High School Equivalency Center.
E-books are also available. This resource is offered in English and Spanish.
Khan Academy provides instructional videos, practice exercises and personalized learning
tools that allow students to study at their own pace.

Spanish GED 365 offers instructional videos, practice exercises and study tools to help learners prepare for high school equivalency exams in Spanish.
The High School Equivalency Center provides online skill-building activities in math, science, writing, grammar and more.
Additional centers include Career Preparation, College Success Skills, Placement Test
Preparation and Computer Skills.
Provides free classes in basic computer skills, GED computer preparation, college information and job search assistance.
